What is Making It Better?

Making It Better is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to transform communities by empowering children and families through literacy, leadership, and life skills. Founded in 2006 by Houston City Council Member Jerry Davis, Making It Better has been on the frontlines of transforming the lives of underserved and at-risk children and their families.

Through compassionate and highly trained Reading Interventionists, the organization has made great strides in narrowing the literacy gap for some of Houston’s most vulnerable children. Coupled with leadership, life skills, and parent-specific programming, early intervention programs offered by Making It Better provide opportunities to lift children up from their low socio-economic status and are a core tool for improving school readiness and social skills for at-risk children.
