What is El Carreton de Libros?
El Carreton de Libros is a nonprofit non-governmental organization (NGO) established in 2019 with the primary goal of promoting a culture of reading in the Dominican Republic. They achieve this through the free lending of books and the organization of educational and cultural activities.
In the Dominican Republic, the population is continually growing, and the existing cultural spaces, particularly libraries, are insufficient to meet the demand. Additionally, there is often a lack of variety in available book titles and genres, along with challenges related to the poor condition of library buildings and limited book lending services.
