What is OKRA Charity Bar?
OKRA is a charitable organization with very specific views on how the industry should operate and engage local communities. It is not a general membership association for restaurants, bars and other branches of the hospitality industry. Instead, it functions as an independent, community-supported advocacy group.
August 2018 features are:
CYCLE: We give young students the opportunity to earn a bicycle for achieving their set goals, and in return, they learn that hard work equals reward.
Houston Urban Debate League: Build, support and sustain programs in Houston public schools making debate an educational resource available to all students.
iWRITE: Ensuring that low-income children have the same academic tools to increase their love for learning. As educational budgets continue to decrease, iWRITE strengthens its reserve to fill in the gap and support our city’s teachers through its in-school “i” The Guy Writer’s Journal program.
Undies for Everyone: Provides underwear to disadvantaged elementary and middle school students with the understanding that owning underwear is one piece of a larger picture helps students succeed in school and decreases their vulnerability to bullies.
